워싱턴주 (시애틀)로 이사온지 2년차.

버섯 산행도 2년차.

올해 처음으로 노루 궁뎅이 버섯을 찾았다.

신기하게 생겨서 공부를 좀 했다.

공부한 내용을 내 유투브에 올렸다.

2nd year in Washington State.
I foraged Hericium (Bear's head-tooth) mushrooms for the first time this year.
I wanted to know more about this mushroom, so I did some research.
The contents are summarized in this youtube clip.
The contents of this clip are roughly as follows. 

- Name of the mushroom
  USA : Lion's mane, Bear's head tooth etc.
  Korea : roe deer's butt
  USA : Monkey's head
- Habitat : Locations I found this mushroom near Mount Rainier etc.
- Benefits of this mushroom 
- Various dishes using this mushroom

이번 산행에서는 내 머리보다 더 큰 송이 버섯을 두개나 발견했다.

Mt. Rainier 남동쪽을 주로 다녔다.

한 예닐곱 군데를 다녔는데 그 중에서 이전에 송이를 따 봤던 곳은 네다섯군데 이고 그곳에서도 송이를 꽤 땄다.

그리고 새로 도전한 곳들에서 이 두 큰 송이버섯을 포함해서 송이버섯을 열개 정도 땄다.

새로운 곳을 발견했다는 것이 더 큰 성과.

다음주에도 같은 코스를 돌아 다닐 계획.

Mushrooming on eve of Halloween.
It was my lucky day.
I foraged around 4lbs of Song-yi (Pine, Matsutake) mushrooms on that day.
2 of them are bigger than my head.
I use the Song-yi mushrooms to make tea and eat them in steak dishes. 

10월 한달간 송이를 찾으러 여러 산을 올랐다.

Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Snoqualmie National Forest and Olympic National Forest

이렇게 워싱턴주에 있는 무려 3개의 National Forest를 돌아 다녔다.

지금까지 3군데에서 송이를 발견했는데 모두 Gifford Pinchot National Forest에 있었다.

11월에도 송이 산행은 계속 된다.

During the month of October, I traveled to several mountains in search of Song-yi (matsutake) mushrooms.
I have been to the mountains of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Snoqualmie National Forest and Olympic National Forest.
I found Song-yi (matsutake) in three places and all of them are in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
I plan to visit various places in November in search of matsutake mushrooms as well.

집 근처 Green River 라고 하는 냇물이 있다.

(내 기준으로는 강이라고 하기에는 좀 너무 작다.)

이곳에 보름 전부터 연어들이 올라온다는 얘기가 있었다.

얘기 듣자마자 구경갔다가 낚시꾼한테 연어 한마리 얻어와서 잘 먹었다.

(맛은 있었지만 냄새가 좀 이상했다.)

보름만에 다시 갔을 때는......

자신들의 임무를 다 끝마치고 죽은 연어들로 그 냇물이 가득 찼다.

그나마 살아있는 놈들도 거의 힘이 다 빠져 도망도 못가고 그냥 사람들 손에 잡혔다.

상류쪽으로 두세군데 더 올라가 봤는데....

모두들 죽은 연어로 가득했다.

9월 24일, 26일 이틀간 시애틀 인근에 있는 레이니어산으로 버섯 산행을 갔다.

3000피트가 넘는 곳도 갔는데 그동안 못보던 버섯들을 볼 수 있었다.

Lobster 버섯은 대부분 상태들이 안 좋았고 노루궁뎅이 버섯 종류인 Bear's head tooth 버섯을 발견했을 때는 너무 좋았다.

능이버섯이랑 아주 많이 닮은 Scale Chanterells 도 많았다.

한국 사람들이 능이로 착각하고 먹을 수 도 있겠다 싶었다.

약간 독성이 있다고 하니 주의를 요한다.

Chicken of the woods를 따다가 벌에 쏘이기도 했는데...

이 버섯은 식감이 고기를 씹는 느낌은 주었다.

그동안 생긴것만 보고 독버섯인 줄 알았는데 이게 인기있는 Porcini 버섯이라는 것을 알고 하나 따 왔다.

맛은 환상이었다.

9/24 Friday

Story 1 : Lobster Mushroom - SW of Mt. Rainier. altitude 2500ft.
==> Most of the lobster mushrooms were in poor condition. I am not interested in lobster mushrooming anymore. 

Story 2 : Bear's head tooth - SW of Mt. Rainier. altitude 4500ft.
==> I discovered this mushroom for the first time in my life.
Because it was a high area, there were many mushrooms that I had not seen. 

9/26 Sunday
Story 3 : Scale Chanterells  - SE of Mt. Rainier. altitude 2700ft. (Near Stevens Canyon Enterance)
==> This mushroom is not recommended for eating.
It is very similar to the edible scaly hedgehog (in Korean Neungi) mushroom.
So, I learned how to distinguish the two mushrooms. 

Story 4 : Chicken of the woods + Bee - SE of Mt. Rainier. altitude 3200 ft. 
==> Found the very fresh Chicken of the woods.
However, he was busy running away because he touched the hive. 

Both days
Story 5 : Porcini - S of Mt. Rainier. altitude over 3000ft.
==> I didn't know these mushrooms were so delicious.
I saw a lot on this hike, but I didn't know what it was, so I left most of it alone.

9/11 워싱턴주 버섯 산행 : Chicken of the woods 버섯 발견

9/20 워싱턴주 조개 잡이 : Razor Clam at Copalis

9월 주말 outdoor activity는 레이니어 산(Mt. Rainier) 과 Copalis 해변에서 즐겼다.

가을이라 수확할 것들이 점점 풍부해 진다.

버섯, 조개, 굴 ... 10월 들어서는 연어 낚시 까지...

9월 중순에 즐긴 버섯 산행과 Razor 조개 잡이 때 찍은 사진으로 유투브 클립을 만들었다.

On Saturday, September 11th, I went mushrooming south of Mount Rainier.
On this hike, I found chicken of the woods for the first time in my life.
Overall, until this time, the weather was warm and there was little rain, so there were not many mushrooms.

On Monday 20th September I went to Copalis for Razor Clamming.
After learning how to use the clam gun properly, I was able to clamming easily.

The things I learned through these two outdoor activities are organized on YouTube.

이곳 시애틀에 있는 Puget Sound에서는 요즘 오징어 잡이가 한창이다.

난생 처음 오직어 낚시를 나갔는데...

운 좋게 오징어 뿐만 아니라 문어와 게도 잡고 다른 사람이 큰 상어와 낚싯줄을 사이에 두고 힘겨루기 하는 장면도 봤다.

물론 오징어 (한치)도 듬뿍 잡아 와서 맛있게 먹어 주고...

오징어 잡이는 겨울 내내 할 수 있는 것 같다.

가끔 오징어가 먹고 싶으면 나가서 잡아 올 수 있어서 좋네.....

I went squid fishing to Puget Sound.
On the first day, I caught an octopus and a crab. (Released them)
I couldn't catch a single squid.
I was able to bring about 50 squids because my wife caught  quite a bit and young couple next to her gave a lot.
Thanks young couple! ;)

On the second day, I caught about 30 by myself.
My wife caught about 10 and was able to take about 40.
I also caught a Red Rock Crab that day.
It's not the season, so I let it go.

However, the highlight of the day was the sixgill shark.
This is my first squid fishing in my life, and I think I had some strange experiences from the beginning. 

이제 여기도 본격적으로 버섯 시즌 시작이다.

지난주 (8/29) 레이니어 산으로 갔었는데 Lobster Mushroom이 많이 올라왔다.

2주전 (8/14)쯤이랑은 완전히 달랐다.

08/29/2021 2nd visit Mt. Rainier for Mushroom. Yes. it started in earnest.
It was completely different from when I went on August 14th.
I picked several Lobster mushrooms that day.
Washington mushroom hunters. Let's go to mountains. 

작년에 시애틀로 이사온 후 10월과 11월에 버섯을 따러 많이 다녔다.

송이가 많이 나던 곳도 있었고 Lobster mushroom이 널려 있지만 너무 늦게 가서 다 상한 버섯들만 있었던 장소도 있었다.

2021년 8월 중순, 이곳들을 사전 답사해 봤다.

레이니어 산 남서쪽과 남동쪽 그리고 북동쪽 이렇게 세곳을 들러 봤다.

버섯들이 거의 없었다.

이곳은 지금 이상고온과 가뭄이 심한 영향도 있는 것 같다.

Lobster mushroom은 이제 비만 한두번 오고 나면 많이 올라올 것 같다.

송이는 비도 오고 조금 더 쌀쌀해 지는 9월 중순 이후에나 나오지 않을까 싶다.

시애틀에 있는 Puget Sound에서 게잡이가 허용되서 게 낚시를 나갔다.

Des Moines Marina Pier라고 집에서 20여분 걸린다.

이날은 허용되는 사이즈가 넘는 게는 5마리를 잡았다.

일단 저녁에 Crab Chowder를 해 먹고 남은 놈들로는 다른 요리를 할 생각이다.
